19 Dec The Top 10 Christmas Movie Classics Not to Miss

The Best Old Christmas Movies!

Here is a list of the top Christmas films that will bring you back to a time when movies had morals and it was A Wonderful Life

There was a time before the internet, before dvds and before television when folks would get all excited, make plans, get dressed up and go to the movie theater to watch Hollywood’s latest hits.    However, even though we were either in a Depression, going into a war or coming out of one, moviemakers seemed to have found a ways to console and bring comfort to us. Movies entertained, the stories had substance, some were musicals, some  were comedies, but all of them were ‘feel good’ movies which helped us get through those times.  Unbeknown to the filmmakers, they were our guiding lights, our preachers, our moral leaders.  They gave us hope for a better tomorrow.

So, here we are again. We’re in a few wars. The economy pretty much stinks.

It’s time to escape again. Buy, rent or go on Hulu.  Sit back, relax, be thoroughly entertained and look for the messages.  It just might make some of these dark days feel a little bit better. Butt just like 60 years ago, there is always hope for a better tomorrow.

  1. These are “feel good movies”. I own and watch Christmas in Connecticut, Holiday Inn, and White Christmas each and every year. They always make me feel good and are great to have on while I write Christmas cards or bake Christmas cookies.

  2. I LOVE these old movies, and there are a couple here I’ve missed–can’t wait to get them. I will make my husband, who has his own personal needlepoint cushion that says “Bah Humbug”, watch them with me. It’ll be good for him.

  3. Great post, I love Christmas in Connecticut. White Christmas is another fabulous movie, you got to love Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. Another great movie that features a little of that holiday magic is Auntie Mame. Christmas is my favorite time of year.

  4. Such a great indulgence…..simple things we sometimes forget. Thank you for the reminder to do something just for me!

  5. Great Christmas movies list! Some are new to me! What fun!

  6. Couldn’t sleep last night and stumbled across one of my favorite “classic” movies – although it’s not a Christmas movie – The Miracle Worker. The end always makes me cry. Thought you might like to know.

  7. Oh my gosh – top two faves? Holiday Inn and Christmas in Connecticut!
